Attractions of Rjúpnavellir
In the vicinity of Rjúpnavalli there are many beautiful places to enjoy Icelandic nature. The first to be mentioned is the main gorge in the area, which is the volcano Hekla, but it can be said that it watches over Rjúpnavellir in all its glory.
There are several waterfalls nearby. First we can mention Fossabrekkur which are just above Rjúpnavellir only about 7 km. driving distance. It is beautiful to see the green slopes and waterfalls after driving through the desert.
Þjófafoss is also not that far from where Búrfell towers over.
It is popular to drive into Fjallabak and stop in Rauðufoss and at the same time respect the eye which has become a popular destination. Most people also visit Fjallabak in Landmannalaugar, which is one of Iceland's most popular tourist destinations. There you can, among other things, walk to the beautiful Grænahrygg and then splash in the natural pool on the spot.

Fossabrekkur
There is a particularly beautiful and special waterfall above the land of Rjúpnavellir called Fossabrekkur. The waterfall is a unique natural beauty in the desert that is all around. It is well hidden and in order to watch it you have to go down the slope where it falls off rocks into the river Rangá. It can be fun to take a packed lunch and eat at this beautiful waterfall. 7. km. in direct driving.
Þjófafoss
Þjófafoss is in the river Þjórsá, east of Merkurhraun, above Rjúpnavellir. The waterfall takes its name from the fact that thieves have been drowned there before. The waterfall is one of the main waterfalls in the river Þjórsá. The river separates the counties, Rangárvallasýsla and Árnessýsla and is the longest in the country.
The volcano Hekla
Hekla towers over Rjúpnavellir and is one of the most active and well-known volcanoes in Iceland. Hekla is 1,491 m. high ridge and often called the queen of Icelandic volcanoes, our diamond. The mountain is in Rangárvallasýsla and can be seen in many places and is easily recognizable as a boat upside down. The mountain last erupted in February 2000.

The Hellismannaleið hiking trail
The hiking trail is a total of about 55 km. It starts in Landmannalaugar and ends at Rjúpnavellir in Landsveit. It is all staked and there are capins in Landmannalaugar, Landmannahellir, Áfangagil and Rjúpnavellir. The day routes are all similar from 16-20 km. A total of about 55 km.
Landmannalaugar
Landmannalaugar is a popular tourist destination on Fjallabaksleið north east of Hekla in Friðlandi to the mountainside. The road to Landmannalaugar is only passable during the summer. Landmannalaugar is known for its natural beauty and colorful rock. One of the most popular hiking trails in the country lies between Landmannalaugar and Þórsmerkur, which is considered suitable for walking in four days.
Rauðufossar and the eye
Rauðufossar (Red waterfalls) has become popular among tourists, both domestic and foreign, and not least the eye called Rauðauga. The reddish-brown bottom of Rauðufossakvíslar forms fun and beautiful contrasts with the light green moss vegetation and the black sands around it. Rauðufossar can be seen when the road leads into Landmannalaugar along Landmannaleið through Dómadalur.
Jökulgil
Jökulgil is also in the area of Landmannalaugar and is 13 km. a long shallow valley that runs southeast from Landmannalaugar into Torfajökull and through which Jökulgilskvísl flows.
Grænihryggur
